Strong Like Bull: One Year Later

Andy, my brother, it's crazy to think it's been a full year since we last heard your magnificent cackle. How I miss it, and think about it every day. I hope you've found peace and happiness, love and laughter. Though you're gone, I think we all rest a little bit easier at night knowing somewhere, someone is getting to meet you for the very first time. Someone's on the receiving end of a firm handshake, a furrowed brow and an enormous smile. But most importantly, they're finding a friend - for life. Where would we all be without that impression you left on us? Without the confidence you gave us to go into the world and treat people with respect? To be healthy and strong (and pretty quick, too), to love and be loved. To laugh at every possible occasion (especially at ourselves) and be a dependable (and irreplaceable) shoulder to cry on. To live life to its fullest, and consume all of the ice cream we can possibly get our mitts on. To run fast, and do our pull-ups. And our push-ups. To stoke the competitive fire whenever possible. Especially with friends. To adore our parents and savor every opportunity to teach a child. To eat - oh, to eat - and to very truly "drink and be merry". Perhaps most importantly, to cherish the vital moments we are so lucky to share with loved ones, friends and family. These rules, the Andy Rules - I just don't know where, or who, I would be without them. I'm sure - I know - there are probably many people who agree with me. Etched onto a stone tablet: no. Memorialized into the upward corners of your legendary and winsome smile: indeed. Because you've lost your touch doesn't mean you'll ever lose your touch: of this, I am sure. You will, and always will be, a friend, a mentor, a brother and a brightly lit path for greeting each day with renewed warmth, desire and compassion. We are fragile, but our bonds our not.

Be good, my friend. We miss you. As always, Strong Like Bull.

Andrew E. Crapol Scholarship Fund

We're very excited to announce the official establishment of the Andrew E. Crapol Scholarship Fund at the College of William & Mary. Through all of your wonderful generosity and support, our expectations have been surpassed, with an endowment coming in just our first year of trying. These efforts are a beautiful testament to Andy's love of his time at William & Mary and the game of soccer, as well as your love for Andy.
The full text of the announcement is below. Thank you, for all that you do. Congrats, Andy. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- THE COLLEGE OF WILLIAM & MARY FOUNDATION

ESTABLISHMENT OF THE ANDREW E. CRAPOL SCHOLARSHIP FUND

“Life is no brief candle to me. It is a sort of splendid torch which I have got a hold of for a moment, and I want to make it burn as brightly as possible before handing it on to future generations.” ~George Bernard Shaw

An endowment has been established in loving memory of Andrew E. Crapol ’00 at the College of William & Mary to support a scholarship for a member of the men’s soccer team. Created through an outpouring of generosity from family and friends, the Andrew E. Crapol Scholarship Fund will provide assistance to a student athlete who demonstrates, as Andy did so well, outstanding leadership and team spirit.

Jovial and energetic, caring and successful — words are insufficient to describe the life that was tragically cut short in March of this year, but the numerous friends, admiring teammates, and loving family members that Andy left behind are powerful testimony to the remarkable Williamsburg native. A four-year athlete in both high school and college, Andy was a member and leader of William & Mary’s men’s soccer team from 1996 to 2000, winning the Coach’s Award (since renamed the Crapol Award) his senior year.

Equally avid about learning as he was about soccer, Andy’s natural curiosity about the world took him to America’s capital and London following receipt of his Bachelor of Arts in economics. He subsequently pursued his interest in the legal profession, earning his Juris Doctor from the University of Virginia in 2005 and joining the international firm Debevoise & Plimpton as an associate. In January 2009, he married his longtime sweetheart, Allison Simmons Crapol ’03.

As one person has remarked, “The mold was broken with Andy Crapol, and we were all enriched by his time with us.” Although he is keenly missed, Andy’s spirit is still very much alive at his alma mater. With this scholarship, his legacy will be further enlarged through future Tribe soccer players.

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the trustees of The College of William & Mary Foundation hereby express their sincere gratitude to Allison Simmons Crapol ’03; Edward P. Crapol and the Honorable Jeanne F. Zeidler M.A.Ed. ’76, Andy’s parents; Heidi A. Crapol ’84, his sister; and all other family and friends who have honored Andy’s memory at the College; and

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the trustees of The College of William & Mary Foundation hereby accept this commitment and establish the Andrew E. Crapol Scholarship Fund.

W. Taylor Reveley, III President The College of William & Mary October 23, 2009

Welcome Friends!

Welcome to AndyCrapol.com. This website was built in honor of our brother and friend, Andy Crapol, who passed away on March 13 2009 after a battle with esophageal cancer. One of Andy's favorite past times was congregating with his close friends and family, and so we expect this place to grow and evolve as the memory of Andy grows stronger with time.  Please enjoy and have a wonderful day.

Thank you.

New! Thanks to everyone who supported and participated in the inaugural Crapolfest. Check out the Crapolfest page for new pictures and more!
